Sunday, June 30th, 1872: Washington Center Fielder Out
The Washington Grays will lose the services of center fielder Billy Vondran after he sustained a strained elbow ligament while throwing the ball in today's game against the Pittsburgh Vulcans. "I'll get through it," Vondran said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 2 weeks.

This year Vondran is batting .298 with 106 hits, no home runs, 57 RBIs, 8 walks, .315 OBP and has scored 69 runs.
Monday, June 3rd, 1872: Sullivan Bangs out 5 Base Hits
On top of the Washington hit parade today was Mike Sullivan. He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Grays to a 19-5 victory over the Baltimore Lords.

The sweet swinging third baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Lords wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

M. Sullivan hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.

So far this year Sullivan is batting .324 with no home runs.
