| Breaking News | | Friday, June 28th, 1872: 5-Hit Game for Gilroy Harry Gilroy was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Packers to a 28-8 victory over the Louisville Lions.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Omaha right fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Gilroy finished the day with 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a line in the record book.
H. Gilroy hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Suttles went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Louisville pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Ballpark of Omaha, he had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. And the Omaha Packers had a 28-8 victory over the Lions.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
F. Suttles hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off C. Turbeville in the 7th.

He has gotten on base at a .330 clip and scored 56 runs. | | Sunday, June 16th, 1872: Dusek 5-6 Against Lions It seemed that Ogden third baseman Jim Dusek could do no wrong as the Golden Spikes kayoed the Lions 19-4 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 6 at-bats. Louisville pitchers couldn't get him out as Dusek seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Golden Spikes were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Louisville fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant Dusek in the postgame press interview.
J. Dusek flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
