Veteran George Schweizer had a great week at the plate for the Sables to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the Western Association.
The 33-year-old Chicago catcher built a .800 average on the strength of 8 hits in 10 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs.
Posting a .313 batting average to date, Schweizer has 1 home run and 11 RBIs. |
| Friday, September 8th, 1876: Schweizer Sensational, 5-5
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for George Schweizer. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Schweizer went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Cincinnati pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Sables Ballpark, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. And the Chicago Sables had a 8-5 victory over the Trojans.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
G. Schweizer doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off M. Hermoso in the 9th.

The Chicago Sables breezed to victory today behind the shutout pitching of Jake Prunty. He surrendered no runs, gave up 6 hits and finished the game with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The Sables won the game 2-0.
