When Ned Edwards stepped up to the plate in June, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Western Association Batter of the Month award.
The young Oakland first baseman posted a .377 batting average with 5 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 26 runs. Edwards also worked pitchers for 4 walks to post a .403 on-base percentage.
In his stats this season, Edwards has posted a batting average of .344 with 112 hits in 326 at-bats, 6 home runs and 52 RBIs. He has also scored 72 runs, walked 7 times and compiled a .364 OBP.

Ned Edwards has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 24-year-old first baseman of the Oakland Prospectors had a pretty fair bat in the Western Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.
Edwards batted .485 with 16 hits in 33 at-bats, 3 home runs and 14 RBIs.
So far this year in 62 games Edwards is hitting .346 with 4 home runs, 40 RBIs and 61 runs scored.

 | Sunday, June 9th, 1872: Super Swinger -- Jarrell Slams 5 Hits
Today the Prospectors downed the Comstock Kings 18-12 as Denny Jarrell sprayed hits all over Ballpark of Oakland in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
The Oakland center fielder said to reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."
D. Jarrell grounded out in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, tripled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
This season Jarrell is hitting .293 with no home runs.
