Jack Grimm demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Western Association Player of the Week Award.
The Cheyenne center fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .529 average (18-34) with 1 home run and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
Grimm's current batting average stands at .306 and he has chalked up 1 home run and 30 RBIs.

| Friday, June 28th, 1872: Grimm Cracks 5 Hits
Jack Grimm had an answer for everything the Virginia City Comstock Kings threw him today in the Cheyenne 18-4 triumph at Cheyenne Grounds. He made good contact 5 times and 5 times he drilled the ball for a base hit.
The Cheyenne center fielder went 5 for 6 in the game to put his name in the record book.
Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Grimm said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."
J. Grimm flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off T. Strub in the 8th.
In 1872 Grimm has put up a .315 batting average with 107 hits, 1 home run and 30 RBIs.

 | Wednesday, June 26th, 1872: Sheppard's Hit Streak Reaches 25 Games
The Hell-on-Wheels knocked off the Comstock Kings today by the score of 23-6, but Virginia City catcher Jim Sheppard still managed to extend his hitting streak to 25 games. He finished the day with 1 hit in 5 at-bats.
J. Sheppard hit a three-run home run off B. Griffin in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.
In the 1872 season Sheppard is hitting .320 with 3 home runs.
