| Breaking News | | Saturday, June 22nd, 1872: Atlantics Beehler Smacks 5 Hits It was a big day with the bat for Henry Beehler of the Brooklyn Atlantics as he bashed out hit after hit after hit against Pittsburgh.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today... and Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big story in the game. We lost the game 14-8. That's the story. The Vulcans flat out beat us!"
At the end of the game Beehler had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy for his big day with the bat, but not too happy with the outcome of the game.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
H. Beehler singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off B. Sockalexis in the 8th.
Looking at his 1872 season stats, Beehler has compiled a .306 batting average in 60 games with a .303 on-base percentage, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 29 runs. | | Tuesday, June 18th, 1872: Darley Stretches Hit String to 25 Mike Darley's consecutive-game hitting streak has now climbed to 25 games. The New York first baseman smacked 2 hits against Brooklyn in today's game at Ballpark of Cheyenne to extend it, but he has mixed emotions about it.
After losing to the Brooklyn Atlantics, Darley told reporters, "I feel good about the streak, but don't feel good when we lose."
M. Darley flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
This season-to-date Darley has no home runs and a .326 batting average. | | Monday, June 17th, 1872: Vito out 4 Weeks with Injury A blow for Mike Vito today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 4 weeks with a fractured wrist. Vito suffered the injury making a defensive play. Although officials from the Brooklyn Atlantics are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Vito's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.
In 1872 Vito is batting .363 with 2 home runs and 62 RBIs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Jake Tourville | bone chips (elbow) | 12 months | 25 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | RF Mike Vito | fractured wrist | 2 weeks | On DL, eligible for return | | CF Henry Beehler | fractured nose | 1-2 weeks | Not on DL | | 3B Fred Waterman | fractured ankle | 4 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 34-49, .410 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 19.0 GB | | Record at home | 22-20, .524 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-29, .293 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-9, .571 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 10-13, .435 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 24-36, .400 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 9-20, .310 PCT | | Record in June | 12-14, .462 PCT |
