| Breaking News | | Friday, June 28th, 1872: Grimm Cracks 5 Hits Jack Grimm had an answer for everything the Virginia City Comstock Kings threw him today in the Cheyenne 18-4 triumph at Cheyenne Grounds. He made good contact 5 times and 5 times he drilled the ball for a base hit.
The Cheyenne center fielder went 5 for 6 in the game to put his name in the record book.
Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Grimm said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."
J. Grimm flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off T. Strub in the 8th.
In 1872 Grimm has put up a .315 batting average with 107 hits, 1 home run and 30 RBIs. | | Friday, June 28th, 1872: Comstock Kings Griffeth Hurt The Virginia City Comstock Kings got some bad news when the team learned that Barney Griffeth was likely to be out for 5 weeks after he injured himself running the bases in today's game against the Cheyenne Hell-on-Wheels. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained medial collateral ligament. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Virginia City manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Barney is back in action."
So far in 1872 Griffeth is batting .289 with no home runs, 41 RBIs and 72 runs scored. He has 78 hits in 270 at-bats and a .313 OBP. | | Friday, June 28th, 1872: Blossom Will Miss 1-2 Weeks Joe Blossom at first refused to leave today's Cheyenne-Virginia City game after he suffered a concussion while colliding with a player at a base. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty Virginia City second baseman said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Blossom out of action for 1-2 weeks.
In the current season, Blossom has put up a .333 batting average with 119 hits, no home runs, 52 runs batted in and scored 68 runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 31-52, .373 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 25.0 GB | | Record at home | 18-27, .400 PCT | | Record on the road | 13-25, .342 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-9, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-18, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 22-34, .393 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 1-9, .100 PCT | | Record in April | 9-19, .321 PCT | | Record in May | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in June | 10-16, .385 PCT |
