| Breaking News |  | Friday, August 18th, 1871: Raskin and Landreneau Fight, Suspended 3 Games
The league commissioner has issued 3- game suspensions to Cheyenne left fielder Dick Raskin and Sacramento left fielder Fred Landreneau. The two players were involved in a confrontation during a recent Hell-on-Wheels-Associates game at Cheyenne Grounds and now will miss time because of it. Neither player would comment on the suspensions.
So far in 1871 Raskin is batting .300 with 1 home run, 25 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He has 92 hits in 307 at-bats and a .339 OBP.
In 1871 Landreneau has compiled a 12-13 record with a 5.96 ERA. |
 | Thursday, August 17th, 1871: Selfridge's Hit Streak Over
Sacramento second baseman Mike Selfridge knew his hitting streak would end sooner or later. He just would have preferred later. Selfridge went 0-for-5 today in the Associates 11-9 victory over the Virginia City Comstock Kings, snapping his 22-game hit streak.
In his stats this season, Selfridge has posted a batting average of .304 with 146 hits in 480 at-bats, 4 home runs and 93 RBIs. He has also scored 130 runs, walked 10 times and compiled a .311 OBP. |
| Sunday, August 13th, 1871: Selfridge Has 20-Game Hitting Streak
Win, lose or draw -- Mike Selfridge just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He has now stretched his hitting streak to 20 games. The Sacramento Associates second baseman picked up 2 hits in 6 at-bats today, but it wasn't enough to win the game. His club was defeated 15-14 by the Denver Pikes at Associates Ballpark.
M. Selfridge singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, hit a two-run triple in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far this season Selfridge is hitting .305 with 4 home runs, 90 RBIs and 126 runs scored. He has 142 hits in 465 at-bats and a .311 OBP.
