Friday, June 28th, 1872: 5-Hit Game for Gilroy
Harry Gilroy was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Packers to a 28-8 victory over the Louisville Lions.

After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.

In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Omaha right fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."

Nobody was at home today as Gilroy finished the day with 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a line in the record book.

H. Gilroy hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

For the season, Gilroy is hitting at a .322 clip with 2 home runs, 37 RBIs and has scored 46 runs. He has 78 hits, 4 walks and a .331 on-base percentage.
Friday, June 28th, 1872: Suttles 5-6 for Packers
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Fred Suttles. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Suttles went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Louisville pitching.

When the dust settled on the diamond at Ballpark of Omaha, he had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. And the Omaha Packers had a 28-8 victory over the Lions.

"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.

F. Suttles hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off C. Turbeville in the 7th.

This year Suttles is hitting .319 with 1 home run and 36 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .330 clip and scored 56 runs.
Monday, June 24th, 1872: Shew on Fire, 5-7 Against Cheyenne
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.

In the Packers 17-3 win over Cheyenne, John Shew was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Ballpark of Omaha.

"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close."

On his big day Shew delivered 5 hits in 7 at-bats.

J. Shew singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Currently Shew has no home runs and a .316 batting average.
