Stephens's Hit Streak Soars to 20 Games
Thursday, July 6th, 1882: And the streak goes on.

Tim Stephens collected another hit in the Bears 9-4 win over the Ash Citys. The Merced right fielder was 1-for-4 in the game. After the game, Stephens commented on his 20-game hitting streak. "I'm not doing too much, just trying to get the bat on the ball and put it in play."

His manager said, "Tim makes it easy for me to pencil his name in the lineup every day."
T. Stephens grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 4th, doubled in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th and walked in the 10th.

This year Stephens has batted at a .393 pace with 149 hits, 2 home runs, 78 RBIs and scored 86 times.
Bakersfield Hopeless Against Tolar
Thursday, July 6th, 1882: Bill Tolar humbled the Bakersfield Brown Stockings today at Brown Stockings Ballpark. In the 3-0 shutout win, he yielded 2 hits, fanned 1 and walked 0 to pace the Modesto Mystics to victory.

This season Tolar has fanned 56 in 222 innings and collected a 13-15 record with a 3.16 ERA.
Roman Fires Shutout in Merced Victory
Sunday, June 25th, 1882: In a standout performance today at Ballpark of Merced, Bears pitcher Henry Roman blanked the Visalia Patriarchs 11-0. He limited them to 3 hits and posted 3 strikeouts and 1 walk to gain the win for Merced.

Presently Roman has a 9-4 mark in 20 starts with a 2.62 ERA. He has given up 172 hits in 140.2 innings, struck out 31 and issued 13 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .284 batting average against him.
