| Breaking News |  | McCabe Wins KPL 1885 Batsman of the Year Award Tuesday, August 18th, 1885: It was a season to remember for Bob McCabe and one for his opposing pitchers to forget. The catcher for Salina has claimed the 1885 Batsman of the Year Award with a .362 batting average.
McCabe rang up 145 hits, 25 doubles, 6 triples, 4 home runs, 77 RBIs and 104 runs scored. He also posted a .425 on-base percentage in his award-winning season. |  | Pitcher of the Year Award Goes to Ladew Monday, August 17th, 1885: 23-year-old John Ladew of the Salina Smokies put together a good year in 1885 for such a young player. Ladew was named today as the winner of the Kansas Pacific League Pitcher of the Year Award.
