Wednesday, May 10th, 1882: The Texarkana Twins struggled at the plate today against Dragons hurler Bill Rochford, who shackled them on 5 hits while hurling a complete game 3-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Twins skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Rochford finished the game with 3 strikeouts and no walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Bill made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
This year Rochford has posted a record of 15 wins and no losses with a 1.85 ERA. He has appeared in 15 games and struck out 47 in 136 innings. |

Wednesday, May 10th, 1882: Sam Hunt scattered 4 hits in going the distance in the Hearne 2-0 victory over the Orange Athletics at Athletics Ballpark. The 23-year-old Hunt whiffed 5 and allowed 1 walk in the game.
So far this season Hunt has compiled a 7-3 record with a 2.33 ERA. |

Monday, May 8th, 1882: "He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Texarkana manager after watching Bill Rochford of the Shreveport Dragons humiliate his club 1-0 in a fine 2-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Rochford said after he befuddled the Twins. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 5 and walked 0 in the complete game effort.
In pitching stats this season Rochford has rung up 14 wins and no losses in 14 games. He has an ERA of 1.98 and has fanned 44 batters in 127 innings. |
