| Breaking News | | Texians Avarlar Suffers 5-Game Suspension Friday, March 24th, 1882: The Dallas Texians were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Shreveport at Texians Stadium. One in particular -- Freddy Avarlar. Upon being called out on strikes, the Texians second baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Avarlar lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Avarlar told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Avarlar for 5 games.
| | Marshall's Leddermann Suspended for 2 Games Friday, March 10th, 1882: Marshall shortstop Billy Leddermann was ejected in the game between the Chiefs and Padres for letting loose a profanity-laced tirade against the home plate umpire after some calls didn't go the way he wanted. Leddermann was incensed in the loss to Corpus Christi and was just as angry after the game.
"These guys are a joke. How can people expect to take this game seriously when you have games like this?" Leddermann said in the locker room after the game.
Now Leddermann must face the consequences of this actions. League officials released this brief statement to the media: "We are regretful that Leddermann has taken this to the level that it has reached. The league will not tolerate this type of conduct. Due to his actions during and after the game, the league is suspending him for 2 games."
