Sanford RDL's Top Hitter for 1885
Sunday, August 9th, 1885: Charlie Sanford has been around Richmond and Danville League enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 1885 season, he's taking home the Batsman of the Year Award in the Richmond and Danville League.

The Augusta left fielder put up a batting average of .348 with 16 doubles, 15 triples, 1 home run and 64 RBIs.
Gatesmen Ace RDL's Best Pitcher
Saturday, August 8th, 1885: John Colliflower of the Greensborough Gatesmen will be adding a new centerpiece to his mantel after being tabbed for the Richmond and Danville League Pitcher of the Year Award today.

The 34-year-old hurler started 46 games this season, tallying a 26-18 record. In 379.2 innings, Colliflower gave up 382 hits, struck out 151, walked 43 and held opponents to a .245 average as he posted a fine 2.01 ERA.
