 | Dave Cunniff Hurt, Out 2-3 Weeks
Sunday, July 30th, 1882: The Indianapolis Indians were dealt a severe blow when Dave Cunniff was hurt making a defensive play recently in a game against the Evansville Eagles. After the game, the team trainer reported Cunniff might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 36-year-old right fielder out for the rest of the season with an intercostal strain. They indicated it would take Cunniff at least 2-3 weeks to heal.
So far this season Cunniff is hitting .313 with no home runs, 41 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 66 hits in 211 at-bats and a .399 OBP. |

Thursday, July 27th, 1882: Mike Skeens had the Saint Paul Capitals dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 5-0 shutout performance for the Evansville Eagles. He gave up 3 hits and collected 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Saint Paul hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."
This season Skeens has 9 wins and 20 losses and a 2.89 ERA. |
