Tom Brown Wins Best Bat Trophy
Sunday, August 30th, 1885: When it came to hitting the baseball, Tom Brown had few peers in the New York Central Minor League this year. The gifted center fielder for Utica tagged opposing pitchers for a .328 average and was voted the Batsman of the Year Award for 1885. Included in his season stats were 124 hits, 23 doubles, 4 triples, 6 home runs, 56 runs scored and 51 RBIs.
Syracuse Ace Wins NYCML Pitcher of the Year Award
Saturday, August 29th, 1885: He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Bill Rochford performed like a veteran on the hill for the Syracuse Corinthians and walked away with the New York Central Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award in the process.

The 24-year-old Corinthians star fashioned a 30-23 won-loss record in 1885 with a 1.76 ERA. In 491 innings of work and 59 starts, Rochford struck out 217 while giving up 474 hits and 100 walks. He held opposing batters to a .244 average.
