Friday, August 11th, 1871: Normandin on Fire, 5-6 Against Sacramento
Henry Normandin told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."

Well, that's just what Normandin of the Denver Pikes did against the Sacramento Associates. He went to the plate 6 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Associates, who suffered a 16-6 defeat.

"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."

H. Normandin singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off F. Landreneau in the 9th.

In 85 games Normandin is hitting .302 this season for the Pikes with 106 hits, 2 home runs, 85 RBIs, 16 walks, .330 OBP and has scored 68 runs.
