Transcontinental Baseball Association News Article | | | Friday, August 11th, 1871: Normandin Collects Cycle The big buzz in the baseball world is about Henry Normandin's performance today at Pikes Ballpark against Sacramento. Normandin had 5 hits en route to hitting for the cycle, leading the charge for the Denver 16-6 triumph over the Associates. A cycle requires all of the four types of hits possible -- single, double, triple and home run -- a batter has to have power, speed and a little luck to do it.
"It was one of those games you dream about," Normandin told the press. "I never expected to do something like this when I showed up at the park today. All you really want to do is hit it hard and put it into play. The hits will come." And the hits did come today. The 30-year-old second baseman rounded out his superb batting display with 5 hits in 6 at-bats, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
H. Normandin singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off F. Landreneau in the 9th.
So far this year Normandin has 2 home runs and a .302 batting average. | |
