Transcontinental Baseball Association News Article | | | Thursday, August 3rd, 1871: Selfridge Bangs out 5 Base Hits Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Associates Ballpark when Mike Selfridge of Sacramento scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the San Francisco Seals.
He walloped 5 hits in 7 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Associates get by the Seals 15-14.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the second baseman of the Associates exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens... good things happen... like 5-7. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
M. Selfridge hit an RBI single in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and doubled in the 11th.
This season Selfridge has hit at a .306 clip with 80 RBIs, 4 home runs and 118 runs scored. | |
