Thursday, August 3rd, 1871: McBeth Torches Seals for 5 Hits
After the Sacramento 15-14 victory over San Francisco and his 5-hit day catcher Harry McBeth told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."

The 25-year-old player gained that distinction today at Associates Ballpark with a spectacular 5 for 7 game against the San Francisco Seals.

The skipper of the Associates spoke glowingly of McBeth, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Harry did that to perfection today."

H. McBeth grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit an RBI single in the 11th.

This year McBeth has socked 71 hits in 207 at-bats for a .343 average with 1 home run. He is getting on base at a .360 pace and his totals also include 51 RBIs and 56 runs scored.
