Transcontinental Baseball Association News Article | | | Thursday, July 13th, 1871: Tarrance Sensational, 5-6 It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Tom Tarrance -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and really shined on the diamond at Sables Ballpark, but the performance lost a little glitter when the Sables were downed 15-13 by the Cleveland Independents.
After his sparkling batting performance the Chicago left fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His batting theory paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book today, too."
T. Tarrance hit an RBI triple in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season Tarrance is hitting .349 with 103 hits, 2 home runs, 59 RBIs, scored 71 runs and played in 65 games. | |
