That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Red Stockings with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the Philadelphia manager, who saw his team fall to the New York Blue Stockings, 12-4. "Hats off to him!"
E. Barthold singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off B. Mull in the 9th.
On the season, Barthold is batting .318 with 3 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has played in 71 games. | |
