Transcontinental Baseball Association News Article | |  | Monday, June 3rd, 1872: Sullivan Bangs out 5 Base Hits On top of the Washington hit parade today was Mike Sullivan. He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Grays to a 19-5 victory over the Baltimore Lords.
The sweet swinging third baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
The skipper of the Lords wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
M. Sullivan hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far this year Sullivan is batting .324 with no home runs. | |
