Monday, June 3rd, 1872: Edwards on Fire, 6-7 Against Omaha
After the Oakland 17-8 victory over Omaha and his 6-hit day first baseman Ned Edwards told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."

The 24-year-old player gained that distinction today at Ballpark of Oakland with a spectacular 6 for 7 game against the Omaha Packers.

The skipper of the Prospectors spoke glowingly of Edwards, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Ned did that to perfection today."

N. Edwards tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off D. Revenig in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off D. Revenig in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.

So far this season Edwards has gotten 76 hits in 222 at-bats for a .342 batting average with 4 home runs. His stats include 35 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He has played in 57 games.
