Monday, June 3rd, 1872: Burns Sizzles -- Smokes Hell-on-Wheels for 5 Hits
Who needs batting practice? Mike Burns of Saint Louis apparently doesn't as he battered Cheyenne with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 24-22 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 7 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

M. Burns flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off B. Clymer in the 9th.

This season Burns is swinging the bat at a .316 pace. He has hit 1 home run and scored 68 times, while driving in 43. His on-base percentage is .327 and he has played in 58 games.
