Transcontinental Baseball Association News Article | | | Saturday, October 14th, 1871: Vondran 5-6 for Panthers It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Billy Vondran -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Panthers Ballpark and paced the Panthers to a 11-6 win over the Chicago Sables.
After his dynamite batting performance the Michigan center fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book.
B. Vondran grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off P. Williamson in the 9th.
This year Vondran is batting .351 with 3 home runs and 69 RBIs. | |
