Monday, October 6th, 2008: Mets 1987 Magadan Wins GL Batting Title
One of the big producers in the New York lineup all season was Dave Magadan. His .345 batting average not only led his team, but also the entire Greenies League. The 25-year-old third baseman for the Mets 1987 collected 199 hits on his way to capturing the batting crown. Magadan also scored 87 runs, socked 4 home runs and piled up 69 RBIs.
Sunday, October 5th, 2008: Big Day with Bat: Strawberry 5-5
It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Darryl Strawberry -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Shea Stadium and paced the Mets 1987 to a 10-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds 1972.

After his dynamite batting performance the New York right fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book.

D. Strawberry singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off P. Borbon in the 8th.

This season Strawberry is batting .267 with 88 hits, 13 home runs, 55 RBIs, .355 OBP and has scored 67 runs.
Monday, September 29th, 2008: Hits Galore: Robinson Drills 5 Hits
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Jackie Robinson got one today. He scattered hits all over Ebbets Field to pace Brooklyn to a 7-6 victory over New York.

The New York skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Robinson hit several that he is not supposed to hit."

J. Robinson hit a solo-shot off R. Darling in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off R. Myers in the 10th.

This season Robinson is swinging the bat at a .342 rate with 210 hits in 614 at-bats. To date he has hit 16 home runs, scored 124 runs and driven in 96.
