| Breaking News | | Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Injury Sidelines Cal Abrams for Season
Doctors in Brooklyn said Cal Abrams may not play anymore this year. The Dodgers 1949 right fielder received a fractured wrist during a game against the New York Mets 1987 and will be out for at least 2-3 weeks. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season.
In the 2008 season Abrams is hitting .338 with 3 home runs. |
| Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: September's Best GL Hurler is Newcombe
In September, Don Newcombe tore through the Greenies League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.
The young Brooklyn starter posted a 6-1 mark and an ERA of 1.98 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 59 innings he collected 31 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .252 average.
In 2008 Newcombe has compiled a 23-15 mark with a 3.44 ERA in 42 starts. |
| Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Robinson Gets GL Batter of the Month Trophy
Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers 1949 recorded a .375 batting average in September. His hitting spree racked up the Greenies League Batter of the Month award for his trophy case.
The Brooklyn second baseman battered opposing pitchers all month, accumulating 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and scoring 27 runs.
In the 2008 season Robinson is batting .343 with 212 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 125 times and batted in 96. |
